Evin penceresinden bakınca gördüğümüz komşular, bizim kim olduğumuzu ve hangi hayatı yaşayacağımızı nasıl etkiliyor? Bu soruyu yıllar boyunca düşünürken çocukluk anılarımdan birini hatırlayınca bu işi ortaya çıkaran fikir belirdi aklımda. Çocukluğumun bir yazı boyunca pencereden gizlice izlediğim ve zihnimde hala yeri olan kişiyi hayal ederken, şu an yaşadığım evin balkonundan gördüğüm yeni komşunun ona ne kadar benzediğini fark ettim. Geçmiş ve şimdi bir araya gelirken, komşu olma rahatlığı ve özgürlüğünü dalların arasında belirip şimdi karşımda duran bu yeni komşu ile hangi zamanda olduğumuzu düşünmeden konuşabilmeliydik. Otuz yıl önceki, bir çocuğun henüz kendini tanımamışken yapamadığı o konuşma artık yapılmalıydı. Çünkü bu sözler bir kez söylendiğinde hep orada duracak, orada kalacak ve hiç unutulmayacak.

How do the neighbors across our buildings form who we are and what kind of lives we live? Thinking about this question over the years, I remembered a childhood memory which brought me the idea of this work. I realized that the new neighbor who moved in the building right opposite of my house looks like the person I would secretly watch from my window for a whole summer in my teenage years. While the past and present come together, it is maybe time to have this talk from behind the tree branches in the freedom and comfort of being neighbors and not worrying about which time we are in. The conversation a kid couldn’t make at a time when they didn’t know who they were should be done now. Because when these words are spoken, they will stay here forever and never be forgotten.
